Two special concerts will be held at John the Baptist Church in
Feckenham on 11 & 12 November at 7.30pm. ‘A Suite for the Fallen
Soldier’ has been specially written by Phil Mountford as a response
to the Great War in words and music and includes a narrative by
Kathy Gee, a poet who lives in the village, based on real letters written by serving
Worcestershire soldiers at the time.
Composer Phil says: I started with the idea of relating a global issue on a local scale.
Looking at The First World War, I wanted to explore the power of the personal and
research the process of commemoration locally. I hope I have connected the place
and people of today with the place and people from 100 years ago. Connecting
this generation with a previous one, sharing stories and preserving them for future
generations.”
The concerts are a part of the village’s commemoration of the role played by local
soldiers in World War 1. A walking tour has also been put together around Feckenham,
telling the stories of 12 of the 24 soldiers whose names are recorded on the village
war memorial.
