During
the coming week world leaders are gathering in Paris to discuss climate change
and to decide on a new global agreement about how to limit emissions and to
reduce the effect of climate change. The issue of climate change is massively
important as we have a responsibility as Christians to love and care for the
world around us.
The
Archbishop of Canterbury spoke on the issue of climate change at the General
Synod, urging people that ‘actions have to change if words are to have effect’
and that the responsibility for reducing and raising awareness for climate
change lies with the whole communion of God’s people. Our responsibility is to
‘be exemplary in what we do ourselves’ and to encourage change inspired by
Christ’s love for the world.
Please pray that those
involved in making the big decisions at the UN Climate Change Conference would
be filled with wisdom and compassion, that they would not be motivated by
economic or financial gain but by our collective duty of care towards the
planet. Pray that an agreement can be reached swiftly and efficiently without
compromising important issues.
