The Revd Canon Jonathan Kimber will start as
the Director of Ministry and Discipleship after Easter
For the past nine years, Jonathan has been Vicar of
St. Benedict’s Church in Northampton, where he has helped
to grow the congregation and developed a number of
initiatives to support people in growing their own faith. He
has valuable experience in training, including curate training
in the Diocese of Peterborough, and chaired the diocesan
planning group for a four-day Bishop’s Conference for clergy
and lay ministers. Jonathan has thought deeply about
leadership in the church, having recently submitted a PhD thesis on the subject which
engages with the insights of prominent theologians and philosophers and also had a
secular career prior to his ordination.
Jonathan said: “I am very much looking forward to getting know the Diocese – both the
place and its people. I really warm to the broad and rich Kingdom People vision and
look forward to learning from the understanding and wisdom of those already here.
I hope to contribute to our growth in faith, as lay and ordained people together, deeply
rooted in the goodness of God, and creatively encouraging each other to serve Him
with joy in the world.”
Jonathan grew up in Northern Ireland and after studying maths at university, spent
seven years working in London in computing, primarily for the John Lewis Partnership.
He trained for ministry in Durham. He is married to Lynne, a hospital pharmacist and
they have two children – Zoe, 12 and Matthew, 9. His hobbies include music (playing,
listening, and occasionally composing), bird watching and astronomy. He also enjoys
walking in the countryside and following the cricket.
Please pray for Jonathan and his family as they move to Worcester.
