2013 saw the first Bewdley Passion Play performed on Good Friday.
Keith James, Rector of Bewdley and Wribbenhall said:
“It was amazing that it took place at all – shutting down the town centre and turning
it into a theatre was ambitious but it worked! Hundreds of people came to an event in
Bewdley that witnessed to the power of the Good Friday story. We were able to use
local people to sing, act and produce the play – it was great community theatre.
“The final crucifixion scene was stunning! I was a little worried as it could easily have
been marred by a shout or wise crack from the audience but a hush descended on the
crowds watching – that was spine tingling.”
This year, the Bewdley Passion is a three-day event with three different plays being
performed:
• Maundy Thursday: Betrayal and Arrest in Jubilee Gardens
• Good Friday: Trial and Death: A promenade performance in Load Street
• Easter Saturday: Resurrection – a new musical production in Jubilee Gardens
All three productions are open to the public with free entry.
Please pray for all those involved in the Bewdley Passion and that the audience will
be touched by what they see. And for all those planning Easter events in our parishes.
