Last Easter, Children at Astley CE Primary School spent half a
day at St. Peter’s Church using ‘Experience Easter’ to interact
with and learn from the events of the Easter story in new and
exciting ways.
Children journeyed around four different areas of the church
and as they travelled around each section, the story of Easter
was revealed. Children were able to wave palms, wash feet
and take part in the Last Supper, experiencing the tension
as that night unfolded. In the crucifixion section, children
reflected on the sorrows they may have and laid them on
the road to Calvary, before listening to ‘Mary’ tell her special story of Easter Sunday.
Mrs Frances French, a School Governor said: “It was wonderful day and really memorable
for all of us, but most importantly for the children.” Mrs Ali Reakes-Williams, Head of
School agreed: “We were so pleased with the
day and the amount of meaningful learning
going on, in really creative ways.”
“I really enjoyed eating the bread and drinking
the pretend wine” Rosie, age 7
“I liked Mary’s story because it was exciting”
