Today is Church Action on Poverty Sunday, where the charity, Church Action on Poverty invites churches to explore visions of the Good Society in services.
Church Action on Poverty (CAP) has a vision of a fairer world with a smaller gap between rich and poor and works to make that vision a reality, by empowering people in poverty to overcome the injustices they face, and equipping churches to work alongside them.
This is a vision rooted in the gospel and shared by many churches, who run foodbanks set up debt counselling services, support credit unions, organise lunch clubs and coffee mornings to help those who find themselves in poverty.
CAP has produced a special prayer to be used today:
Loving God
You made us in your image and inspire us with your story
Bless us with dreams and visions which are big enough to see your kingdom.
Strengthen our hands and hearts as we work towards that good society where the
promise of fullness of life is real for each and everyone.
Amen.
Pray for all those who struggle to make ends meet and for all in churches who run
initiatives to help those in poverty.
