The first three participants on the diocesan
Ministry Experience Scheme are approaching
the end of their year. Melissa, Jonathan and
Peter have lived in a vicarage in Dudley since September, praying together and getting
practical experience of what it’s like to be a vicar in a parish. All three have been
discerning their calling to ordination.
Peter said: “It has been a fantastic way to be able to experience ministry. I’ve had the
opportunity to be with people through the toughest and the best times of their life.
There is an incredible sense of community in the Black Country. I feel like I’ve been
invited into the family and it’s been awesome to be part of that.”
The three participants have lived together and say evening prayer together daily.
Melissa said: “Taking the time to pause each evening as we say the psalms together
has really helped me to look at the bible in a different way. It’s brought the word of God
into my innermost life.”
Jonathan said: “It’s been really enriching to learn from each other’s traditions and
spirituality as we come together to pray. And it’s been brilliant to be involved in the full
breadth of parish life. It’s allowed us time and space to reflect on who we are and I’ve
learnt a great deal over the last few months.”
Pray for Melissa, Peter and Jonathan as they continue
their Christian journey and pray for the Ministry Scheme
moving forward that there will be more 18-30 year olds
keen to take up the opportunities of the scheme in
September.
