From 7 – 9 October, the Archbishop of Canterbury,
Justin Welby, will be visiting the Diocese of Worcester to
affirm our ministry here in Worcestershire and Dudley.
There will be three public events through which we hope
as many people as possible will be able to see and
interact with the Archbishop. He will be in conversation
with the BBC’s Jeremy Vine at Worcester Arena on
Friday 7 October, visiting an activities day for families
at St Stephen’s Redditch on Saturday 8 October and
taking part in a prayer and praise event at Merry Hill
shopping Centre in Dudley on Sunday 9 October.
Alongside these events, Archbishop Justin will be
visiting other parts of the Diocese to bless and
encourage the work of different church groups. This
includes an afternoon tea showcasing the work of
our rural churches, including those involved in the
Germinate programme, a business breakfast exploring the importance of business
ethics and an event for young people titled ‘The Power of Hope’, in which Archbishop
Justin will be talking to Nobel Laureate, Malala Yousafzai at Dudley College. There will
also be a special ‘retreat in daily’ life for clergy and Readers and a dedicated schools
event, both held at the Cathedral.
All of the Archbishop’s itinerary has been planned with his priorities of reconciliation,
prayer and the renewal of the church in mind, as well as focussing around many of the
elements of our own Kingdom People vision.
Please pray for Archbishop Justin as he comes to the Diocese of Worcester and for the
staff who will come with him. Pray for all those organising the events during his visit and
for those who will attend, that new people will come to faith and others will have their
faith refreshed and strengthened as a result.
