Suckley church SPACE Project

Suckley Church PCC has a vision for their church to become again the active heart of a
scattered rural community. The church is the only large community space in the village,
but lacks running water, kitchen and toilet facilities.

Next door to the church is the village school. An Academy which is Ofsted outstanding,
it is ‘at capacity’ with 80 pupils. However, it has no hall for whole school assemblies
and pupils travel eight miles for PE.

SPACE is a combined church, school and community initiative to enable the village
church to more effectively communicate with and relate to its community and school.
The plan is to mobilise some of the fixed pews in the nave and replace the rest with
stackable chairs to create a versatile space that will benefit both the church and school
as well as encouraging wider community use.

Churchwarden, Anne Lewis said: “We want our church building to become a mission
tool instead of a millstone in our outreach to the wider community. More flexible
and family friendly church use should attract the young families who are too often
noticeable by their absence; and also enable Suckley to offer our facilities to all in our
Group of churches for this important outreach.”

Suckley PCC has successfully applied to the Kingdom People Fund for a grant as they
move in to the fundraising phase of this exciting project.

Please pray for all at Suckley Church working
on this important project and for all those
across the Diocese looking at innovative
ways of using their church building.
