On Christmas Day 2015, St Michael’s
Church welcomed 40 people for a wonderful
turkey lunch with all the trimmings! The
initial idea was born from a desire to offer
hospitality to those who would be on their
own on Christmas Day without the luxury of
having their family around them.
The local Tesco store very generously
donated all of the food from turkey and
vegetables to gravy, Christmas pud and
custard! Church members spread the word
in the community and were absolutely
amazed at the support received in so many
different ways. Volunteers for the day, loans
of equipment, gifts donated to give to the
guests on Christmas Day poured in and
there was wealth of support from people.
About 20 people booked their meal at the church and there was a fabulous bunch
of volunteers who also enjoyed lunch, many of whom were on their own too. The
age range was 5 – 92! Those people who attended made new friends and enjoyed
a Christmas Day that they would not have experienced on their own.
The organisers said: “There are so many lovely memories of the whole day and it was
probably the best thing we have ever been involved in! Having learned so much from
this meal, we know we can make it even better this year and hope to find even more
people who are on their own and would benefit from the lovely food and great company!”
Please pray for all those on their own on Christmas day and those giving up their time
to ensure others are not.
