Earlier in the year, 17 couples renewed their marriage vows at a special service at
St James’ church in Wollaston, Stourbridge. Couples had been married for between
2 and 60 years with several celebrating special anniversary years.
One couple, Roger and Jane Duxfield, celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, travelled from Liverpool to renew their vows at the same time as their son and his wife – Will and Polly Duxfield, who had been married for just under two years. Polly said:
“It was a real family affair and very special to renew our promises to each other with Will’s parents doing the same.”
Two of the other couples, Shirley and Gordon Horne of Bridle Road, Wollaston, and
Roy and Pauline Taylor of Cedar Gardens, Kinver, both renewed their vows after 60 years of marriage. Roy, who is also the organist at the church, left his usual seat at the keyboard to join his wife for the service. Both couples were presented with bouquets of flowers to celebrate their achievement in reaching their diamond anniversaries.
After the service there was a certificate, wedding cake and bubbly for everyone and
a photographer took pictures so everyone had a record of the happy event.
Please pray for all those couples who renewed their vows in Stourbridge and for those who will renew their vows at a service in Worcester Cathedral this evening.
