During February, Rachel Burton has travelled
to Bolivia with CMS to help establish a rehab
community to help those trapped in the
cycle of addiction.
Rachel is the daughter of Hugh Burton, Vicar
and Rural Dean in Kidderminster and was
brought up attending St. Chad’s Church.
Over the past few years she has been
working at a Christian drugs rehab centre in
Reading, but is now going to take her skills
and experience to help set up something
similar in Bolivia.
Two-thirds of the Bolivian population live below the poverty line, and support for addicts
is minimal. Addiction to alcohol, marijuana, solvents and ‘pitillo’ (a form of cocaine) is
a rapidly growing problem in Bolivia, and is connected with many other social issues
such as prostitution, child neglect and homelessness.
Rachel says: “It’s exciting to be involved in pioneering this charity in its early stages.
I’ll be taking a lead in developing recovery group resources as well as helping equip
local people and churches to respond effectively to the growing problem of addiction.
My faith in God is what inspires and motivates me, and I look forward to being able to
share God’s love and grace with those I meet in Bolivia.”
Please pray for Rachel as she travels to Bolivia for an initial two years and for all those
amongst whom she will minister.
