The Chaplaincy team at HMP Long Lartin comprises a number of core employed staff
(Christian and Muslim) as well as a bank of employed and volunteer staff covering all
the main world religions. We all share one large office in the heart of the jail. We
enjoy very good working relationships across the team (with true respect, fun and lots
of sharing of food!). Our Christian chaplains (ordained and lay) are Steven, Stephen,
Penny and Hugh (Anglican); Lesley (Salvation Army); Jan (Baptist); Garry (RC); Judith
and Sarah (Quaker). We are also supported by a faithful team of volunteers who join
us for Sunday worship and midweek groups.
HMP Long Lartin is a high-security jail, mostly housing men serving long sentences for
serious crimes. Chaplains are well-known around the jail and provide pastoral care for
inmates and staff of all faiths and none, including bereavement and family support; and
faith-specific duties including one-to-one work, study groups and weekly worship. We
also fulfil certain statutory duties including attending prison committees, and daily visits
to segregated prisoners, new arrivals, and those in the healthcare wing.
Please pray for the Chaplaincy
team at HMP Long Lartin that
they will be able to maintain
their own spiritual disciplines
in a busy and demanding job;
keep a distinctive Christian
focus that is relevant to the
men; and help the men to
develop and grow in their faith.
