Our longest-serving churchwarden?

One of our longest serving churchwardens
celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this year.

Dennis Bluck lives with his wife Margaret and their
son Alan and his family at their home in Grafton
Flyford. His family have lived in the same house for
over a century, Dennis attended the village school
next door to the Church as a child and first became
People’s Warden during the 1960s. He has been a
churchwarden for some 55 years.

Dennis sang in the Church choir from the age of eight and remembers with amusement
naughty choristers in the days leading up to the Abdication crisis in 1936 singing;

‘Hark, the herald angels sing, Mrs. Simpson stole our King.’

After serving with the Air Force during the war, Dennis, a carpenter by trade, returned
to the village and has worked in most areas of the building industry ever since, with
his son Alan following in his footsteps. As well as their regular work the pair have
contributed enormously to the well-being of the Church and have mended and repaired
whenever they have been able. In addition to this, the family has given generous help to
fund-raising efforts in the parish and their beautiful garden has been the venue for
some notable garden parties.

Please pray for Dennis, Margaret and their family and give thanks for the dedication
they have shown to Grafton Flyford Church.
