The Revd Dr Stephen Edwards was installed as
a Residentiary Canon at Worcester Cathedral in
September, after being appointed by HM the Queen.
Joining the Cathedral Chapter from the Diocese of
Manchester, his particular responsibilities include
promoting the Cathedral’s mission in the Diocese
and local community, and also for the pastoral care
and spiritual nurture of the Cathedral community.
The Dean of Worcester, the Very Revd Peter Atkinson, said: “Stephen is an outstanding
priest and we have warmly welcomed him to Worcester Cathedral and our diocese. He
has joined us at a time of many exciting initiatives in the work of the Cathedral, including
the creation of a new learning centre in our medieval Undercroft, and the arrival of a
new Director Music. Stephen’s ministry will encourage the Cathedral congregation,
promote the Cathedral’s work across the city, county and diocese, and strengthen the
work of our education team.”
Bishop John said: “Stephen Edwards is an immensely gifted priest whose ministry
in the Diocese of Manchester is very highly regarded. We have been very pleased to
welcome him here.”
Stephen said: “I am honoured to be appointed as a Canon Residentiary at Worcester
Cathedral in this exciting new role bringing together pastoral care for the Cathedral
community and promoting the cathedral’s mission within the city and wider diocese.
It has been very hard to leave the north west after so many happy years, but I am
delighted to have moved to the beautiful city and Diocese of Worcester.”
Please pray for Stephen and all other new members of Cathedral staff, who work to
support the mission of the Diocese in the city centre.
