This evening at the Cathedral, just under 70 people will become Authorised Lay
Ministers. They have all completed courses to work in their parishes as either
Worship Leaders, Pastoral Assistants, Children & Youth Workers, Community Workers,
Administrators or Evangelists.
As part of the service, Bishop John will also award this year’s Wulfstan Cross to Peter
Seward, who is currently Vice Chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd. The Wulfstan
Cross is an award which pays tribute to individuals who have made an outstanding
contribution to the life of the Church in the Diocese of Worcester.
Peter has worked in various roles in the Diocese since
1989. He has served on the Diocesan Resources Board,
the Audit Committee and as Chair of the Investment
and Glebe Committee as well as being Vice Chair of
the Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd. These roles have
meant that he’s also been involved with both Deanery
and Diocesan Synod as well as Bishop’s Council. Peter
worships at Little Comberton Church, where he was
churchwarden for around ten years and continues to be a
member of the Parochial Church Council.
Bishop John said: “This is a very well deserved honour for someone who has given
stalwart service to the Diocese of Worcester over very many years. The Wulfstan Cross
was established to thank those who have given an exemplary service in the Diocese
and there’s no doubt that Peter meets this criterion. Peter’s financial expertise has
been invaluable to the Diocesan Board of Finance and I will be delighted to present
this award to him.”
Please pray for all those who will become ALMs this evening and for Peter Seward as
he is awarded the Wulfstan Cross.
