Kempsey’s fun-filled holiday club run by St Mary’s
Church returns to Norton Juxta Kempsey CE
First School for one week this summer. Aimed
at children up to the age of 11, every year
approximately 50 children from both the local
church and community schools, and the wider
community take part. Attendance has increased
year-on-year and the club is often oversubscribed!
The set theme and a daily Bible verse are used
to convey a gentle religious message; past
themes have included Pirates, Tropical and
Under the Sea. Each day starts with an ISingPop
song, before outdoor and indoor games, craft and cooking activities, films and quizzes.
Many of the children and families who take part in the holiday club have often later
engaged with the church’s family service.
To further support the community, Kempsey’s popular toddler group continues to run
through the holidays, with pop-up playgroups around the local housing estates. The
church have also committed to providing daily lunches for disadvantaged children in
Kempsey School, throughout the summer.
The Revd Mark Badger, Rector of Kempsey & Severn Stoke with Croome d’Abitot said, “Our
summer holiday club and toddler groups are part of our continued engagement with our
local community. We hold an assembly every week in our local schools and we arrange
these activities in order that the relationship doesn’t shut down in the summer. We provide
a service to the community in a long period where childcare costs can be high.”
Please pray for all children and families during this summer holiday, especially for those
who are disadvantaged, that the activities organised by churches in our communities
might support them and provide light in their darkness.
