Several themed retreat weekends have taken
place at Mucknell Abbey, just outside of
Worcester this year, including an Introduction
to the English Mystics which began on Friday
evening and closes after lunch today.
Over the weekend, Sister Alison has led
reflections on the works of England’s spiritual
writers of the fourteenth and ffteenth centuries,
specifcally Julian of Norwich, Walter Hilton,
Richard Rolle and Marjory Kempe, in addition
to the anonymous author of ‘The Cloud of
Unknowing’. Group sessions familiarised visitors
with the life story of each mystic and gave them
the opportunity to share any personal reflections
on the spiritual writings, which arose during their ‘space’ in between sessions. Space
involved time for being, reading, walking, thinking and praying.
All weekend retreats take place against the background of Mucknell Abbey’s everyday
life, where visitors are invited to join the community for some, or all, daily Offices
and the Eucharist. The community is mixed, formed of men and women Anglican and
Methodist, young and old.
Details of future themed weekends at Mucknell Abbey are available on their website:
www.mucknellabbey.org.uk.
Please pray for all those who live and work at Mucknell Abbey, that they might provide
a place of hospitality, fellowship and peace in our busy world.
